FAA REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (CFI/CFII)

Certified Flight Instructor (CFI):

Eligibility

18+ years old

Commercial / ATP Airplane

Instrument rating (if teaching instruction)

Logbook endorsement of training and experience from an authorized instructor to include the following:

Flight Experience (minimum)

- No new hour minimum beyond CPL

- Spin awareness / endorsement

Knowledge / Skills Tests

- FOI written (unless exempt)

- FIA written

- CFI checkride with DPE (oral + flight)

Instrument Instructor (CFII):

Eligibility
Hold CFI + instrument rating

Logbook endorsement of training and experience from an authorized instructor to include the following:

Flight Experience (minimum)

- Meet instrument proficiency

- No new hours

Knowledge / Skills Tests

- FII written

- Practical test (oral + flight)
