INSTRUMENT RATING (IFR)

FAA REQUIREMENTS FOR INSTRUMENT RATING (IFR)
Eligibility
Hold at least a current Private Pilot Certificate
Read/speak/write English
3rd Class medical certificate
Logbook endorsement of training and experience from an authorized instructor to include the following:
Flight Experience (minimum)
- 50 hrs. of cross-country PIC time
- 40 hrs of instrument time (15 hours with an authorized instructor)
- 3 hrs flight training with an authorized instructor, performed within the preceding two calendar months
Cross-Country Instruction (to include)
- 1 instrument cross-country of at least 250 NM by directed routing from air traffic control
- An instrument approach at each airport
- 3 different types of approaches using navigation systems
Knowledge / Skills Tests
- FAA Instrument Rating Airplane Knowledge Test (IRA)
- Checkride with DPE (oral + flight)
